How to Install Lightroom Presets

Presets have changed the game of editing. However, installing them can be a bit confusing for beginners. This guide will show you how to install Lightroom presets not only in desktop applications but on the free mobile application as well.

Read along to learn how to do it.

Lightroom Classic CC (Version 7.3 or later)

When you open the program, you will be in the Library Module but you have to go to the Develop Module by pressing D. You will see Presets option on the left-hand side. Lightroom already has a few presets which come with it. In order to add new presets, click on the + icon. A dropdown menu will appear, you have to select Import Presets>. Then you have to navigate to the folder containing the presets. You can either select each of the presets individually or select the ZIP folder. It is better to do the latter as the structure of the folder remains intact in this method. Click Import to add them.

Lightroom Classic 4,5,6 and CC (Version 7.2 or older)

Now, let us see how to install lightroom presets for all these versions. Version 7.3 of Lightroom Classic CC came around mid-2018 and 7.2 came before that. Therefore, there are some differences in the installation process. In Lightroom, head to the Edit menu. (All of these steps are the same for both Mac and Windows. However, there is a slight difference in this first step. In Mac, instead of Edit, you will see Lightroom Dialogue. Click on that and the rest of the steps are the same) There you will find Presets option in the Preferences submenu. Click on Show Lightroom Presets Folder. After that, you have to double click on Lightroom and then double click on Develop Presets. Now you have to navigate to the folder containing your presets. Once there, copy the presets and paste them into the Develop Presets folder. Finally, restart Lightroom.

After you have opened the app on your phone, the first step is to select an image from the gallery. You should see a toolbar on the bottom, slide it to the right. After that press the Presets option. You will see the three dots denoting the menu. Press in order to open it and then select Import Presets. This should open the file explorer of your phone. Navigate to the folder containing the presets and select it. As mentioned before, it is better to import the ZIP file. How to Install Presets for iPhone

For iPhone, first, extract the ZIP file. Then open the app and create a new folder by clicking on the + icon in the library. You can name it Presets. Then, press Create New Album and name it after your presets folder, just add DNG at the end. In the Album, there is an Add icon. Press on it and then navigate to the folder containing the presets. This method is used to create presets from DNG files. So, when you open the image, press the three dots, and select Create Preset. Put this preset in a new Preset Group. Do this step for all DNG files. You also get the option to uncheck more settings such as White Balance and Color, but only change them according to the preset pack that you are installing. These presets can be found in the Presets menu.

Conclusion

Now that you know how to install Lightroom presets, the only thing that remains is to install some presets. Practice and have fun with the new presets.
